Indian English Novelists
Hello everyone, this is AKSHAJ PAI
I will introduce you, Indian English novelists, whose story should be read by all children. These stories help children in developing vocabulary and constructing sentences, not only that it makes them feel as if they have entered in a fantasy world. A few Indian English novelists are RK Narayanan, Ruskin bond, Aravind Adiga, Vikram Seth, Shashi Tharoor, Sudha Murty and Uma Krishnaswami.
Vikram Seth, son of a judge and a businessman and born on 20/Jun/1952 at Calcutta, India, is a Poet, Novelist and Travel writer, known for his works The Golden Gate (1986) and A Suitable Boy (1993). He was educated at the The Doon School in Dehradun, India and then graduated from Corpus Christi college, Oxford.
For his outstanding works in English Literature, he has received awards such as Padma Shri, Sahitya Academy Award, WH Smith Literary Award and many others.

Arion and the dolphin, a novel by Vikram Seth, is about a musician, who travelled in a boat to Sicily for a show. When he returned to the boat, there were some greedy sailors, who wanted the gold. They forced Arion overboard but a group of dolphins who liked music came by and rescued Arion and took him home. When he returned home, the chief enquired why he returned on a dolphin instead of the ship. Arion told about what happened, but the chief was unhappy. He sent Arion to prison and asked fishermen to catch the dolphin and sent it to a circus. After some years the dolphin died, and Arion was sad when he came to know about it. Just then the captain of the ship returned. The chief asked why he was thrown out of the boat. The captain told the reason, and he was guilty.
Sudha Murty, A writer, philanthropist and entrepreneur, is an inspiration to many with the multiple role she has played over the years. She is greatly revered for being a prolific writer, facilitating the education of poor children. From becoming the first female Engineer of India to heading a company like Infosys, her seriousness towards making a change in society and her educational journey has played a significant role in her making. Sudha Murty, daughter of Dr. R H Kulkarni and Vimala Kulkarni, was born on 19 August 1950 in Shiggaon, Haveri in Karnataka, India.

Grandma’s bag of stories by Sudha Murthy, is about a grandma who tells stories to her grandchildren who came during their summer vacation. Grandma’s grandmother told her these stories. One of the stories is about a woman named Kaveri who lived with her lazy husband. She worked hard day and night in her farm. one day a thief came to the house and asked the lady, if she can sell the field to him and in return, he will give a handsome money. But Kaveri knew that he was a thief, so she used her wit to escape from the thief every time he comes and at last, she succeeded. All the stories included in this collection are so lively. We will be able to imagine ourselves as the character of each of the stories.
Uma Krishnaswami is an Indian Author of more than 25 books for young readers, including picture books, middle grade novels, a chapter book, and early readers. She is “recognized as a major voice in the expanding of international and multicultural young adult fiction and children’s literature

0ut of the way, by Uma Krishnaswami, is about a young boy who spotted a sapling, and he puts some rocks around it. a mango seller, who was in a hurry yelled ‘out of the way, out of the way. Slowly as the sapling grew bigger and became a tree, the path transformed into a lane where everyone was in a hurry but still people came near the tree to feel the magic work. That magic works on us too which forces us to read it again and again.
Shashi Tharoor, born on 09Mar1956, is a former international diplomat and an acclaimed Indian writer, having authored 23 bestselling works of fiction and non-fiction since 1981, which are centered on India and its history, culture, film, politics, society, foreign policy, and more related themes.
Currently he is serving as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, since 2009.

Tharoorasuarus by Shashi Tharoor is a humours story about 53 uncommon words in the alphabetical order like Agathokakological, bombastic, claque, kiplingo, philanthrobber , teetotalitarian and some new grammar like cromulent, controryms, aptagram etc. The name of the book itself is the combination of the authors name, tyrannosaurus and Thesaurus.
This story also enhances your vocabulary and language skills. Each word he introduced are not too hard to understand as the word in the books. Isn’t the word Floccinaucinihilipilification interesting. he explains how inventor of this word sir Walter scoot combined the set of words from Latin words and the situation where we must use this word.
R K Narayan, born in 1906, is one of the best-known of the Indo-English writers. He created the imaginary town of Malgudi, where realistic characters in a typically Indian setting lived amid unpredictable events. Narayan’s stories begin with realistic settings and everyday happenings in the lives of a cross-section of Indian society, with characters of all classes. In a career that spanned over sixty years Narayan received many awards and honors including the AC Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan, India’s second and third highest civilian awards,and in 1994 the Sahitya Academy Fellowship, the highest honor of India’s national academy of letters. He was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament.

Swami and friends, written by RK Narayanan, starts on a Monday morning and introduces swami, his friends and teachers. His 5 friends are Somu, the monitor, Mani, the good for nothing, Sankar the brilliant, Samuel, the pea and the new boy. His teachers are the headmaster, his mathematic teacher, fire eyed vedanayaga and his history teacher, D.Pillai, who had earned fame in the school for his kindness. In the end, Swami nearly misses the train and manages to board and looks at his best friends through the window, who still refuse to speak to him, and Swami was left wondering if his friends will write letter and if he will be forgiven.
Ruskin Bond was born in Punjab, British Indian and attained his education in Shimla and after completion of high school he moved to the U.K to enhance his writing career. He started his career as a freelance writer and eventually got jobs as editor in various magazines. It wasn’t until 1980 his novel was published which became widely admired amongst readers.

The blue umbrella, by Ruskin Bond, is about a little girl who was in love with her blue umbrella. She bought the umbrella with Her claw necklaces. So, whenever she went outside, she carried he umbrella with her. Once a Chinese trader came to her and asked for the blue umbrella, but she refused to give it to him. After a lot of struggle, the Chinese trader went away disappointed.
Aravind Adiga , Man Booker Prize winner, is an Indian writer and journalist. His debut novel, The White Tiger, won the 2008 Man Booker Prize.
Born in Madras (now Chennai) on 23 October 1974 to Dr. K. Madhava Adiga and Usha Adiga from Mangalore, he grew up in Mangalore and studied at Canara High School and later at St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru, where he completed his Secondary School Education.
Since 2000, he has worked as a journalist, first as a financial correspondent in New York, then returning to India in 2003 to work as a correspondent for TIME magazine. His articles on politics, business and the arts have appeared in many publications.

Last Man in Tower is a novel by Aravind Adiga, that sets two men against each other over the ownership of a small flat in Mumbai, India.
The plot is filled with revenge as neighbour turns against neighbour in things that are most important to them. In the battle, Masterji becomes the last man in the tower, fighting not only against Mr. Shah, but also against his other neighbours as well. After the Society members vote to remove Masterji from the building and the battle was over.
